About Project FREE

Welcome to Project FREE- Connecting Communities C.I.C.

Founder and Managing Director, Ruth Sinhal, an ex-teacher, delivers projects that centre social and racial justice with a powerful impact both within and beyond the classroom.

In 2018 she set up Leicester UnitEd, an initiative to pair schools across the city of Leicester, with the aim of giving children opportunities to meet others they may not normally meet in their day to day lives and challenge any stereotypes they may hold of each other.

In 2019 this was rebranded as The Leicester Schools Linking Project and a lasting connection to The Linking Network was established. In 2021 The Leicester Intergenerational Linking Project was also formed, offering opportunities to connect schools with care homes or other older people’s groups.

After five years of delivering these projects through another organisation, it became clear that 2024 was the time to break free and go it alone!

So, Project FREE was established as a Community Interest Company in June 2024 to deliver these existing projects and offer a wider range of new projects and events to connect and empower communities.

Our Statement of Purpose:

Project FREE is working for a more connected society, free from ‘identity’ based discrimination, prejudice, harassment and violence. By bringing people together to meet and take part in shared creative, collaborative learning experiences we seek to build connections across lines of perceived difference, break down misconceptions of ‘others’ and demonstrate how diversity is strength.

All our FREE projects and events build belonging, nurture empathy, challenge stereotypes and enhance critical thinking.

We deliver projects for schools, care homes and older person’s groups and the wider community.

Our mission is to enhance, empower and enrich our community.
